Getting to know Pitt
  Places on Campus:

The Cathedral of Learning, which is very hard to miss, basically becaue it is the second largest academic building in the world, has a great cafeteria/coffee place to meet students in the basement.  The Cathedral also houses the International Rooms.   There are 24 such rooms.  Each room represents a different country with materials exclusively from that country in it.  Some of the rooms are used as classrooms.  There is an Israelroom
that actually has Jerusalem
stone lining the walls.  It is a great place to program.
There are 11 dorms, two (well actually 4) of which are conducive to tabling.  The Towers are actually 3 freshman dorms with a common lobby.  Sutherland, where Clive Pursehouse was the RD and Towers, are the dorms where tabling is the most effective. The Union
, in my opinion is the best and worst place to table.  If it is a nice day, it is a great place to table.  There is a lot of foot traffic, its just fun.  But it is also the worst place to table because, if you are not outside, you are inside, downstairs.  Yes there is a cafeteria, but it is cramped, and just not a nice place to table. One of my most successful coffee hours was in the Cup and Chaucer, which is located in the rear of Hillman library.

Pitt is strange.   It is a fairly large campus, with almost no great place to table.  I have found that tabling is not all that effective.    So I cut down on tabling to make it more effective, and held daily coffee talks on campus in the various coffee shops around campus. It was not very successful in the begining.  But once the students realized that it was free coffee, I would have a regular crew for coffee.

As for places to program, there are many options.  The JUC, the Union, the Cathedral, and the dorms are all great places. The union is usually a pain to get a reservation in, so you have to do that early.  As for the dorms, the only way to do programs, is to partner with the RAs.    There are also various bars and clubs on campus that are great for programs.  We've had four very successful parties at a few of the local bars; the PHI Bar next door, Club Laga/The Attic on campus, and the Union Grill are places that we have great relationships with.

4-Fact (telefact)
4-Fact is one of the coolest things about Pitt.  Any question you want answered, call 412-624-fact.  They have weird hours, but you can get almost any question answered.
